Muğla hosts 3.7 Million Foreign Tourists in 2024

Muğla, home to some of the country’s major tourism centers like Bodrum, Marmaris, and Fethiye, hosted 3.7 million foreign tourists last year.

Muğla Governor İdris Akbıyık met with press members working in the province at a hotel in the Sakin Kent Akyaka Neighborhood in Ula district on January 10, in celebration of the Journalists’ Day.

In his statement, Akbıyık mentioned that Muğla receives tourists from many countries and that the visitors leave the city satisfied after being welcomed in the best possible way.

Noting that there was an increase in the number of tourists compared to the previous year, Akbıyık said, “Muğla continues to be one of the most important tourism centers in both our country and the world. Throughout 2024, our province, which attracted significant interest from both domestic and foreign tourists, saw not only growth in seaside tourism but also major developments in alternative tourism sectors such as sports, culture, health, and gastronomy.”

Akbıyık emphasized that blue cruises, unique coves, and ancient cities offered visitors unmatched experiences, and he noted that efforts to strengthen the diving tourism infrastructure in the province to spread tourism across all four seasons have been accelerating.

Museum and Site Visitor Numbers Exceeded 1 Million in 2024

Akbıyık highlighted their efforts to enhance Muğla’s position in health tourism and make the city a major destination in this field, saying, “2024 has been a year where we reached record numbers in tourism. Muğla, which hosted 3.7 million foreign tourists and over 10 million tourists in total, has already started its work for an even more productive 2025 in terms of tourism. We reached 250,000 tourists in cruise tourism. As a result of our efforts to develop the cultural tourism infrastructure of Muğla, the number of visitors to museums and ancient sites exceeded 1 million in 2024.”

Akbıyık also pointed out significant progress in the gastronomy sector, noting that Muğla became the second province after Istanbul to be included in the “Michelin” selection with 31 restaurants.

He also mentioned that Muğla is one of the leading provinces in Turkey’s agricultural sector, ranking high in areas such as olives, citrus fruits, greenhouse farming, and honey production.

Akbıyık also provided information about the investments being carried out by ministries in Muğla and its districts.
