Muğla Metropolitan Municipality’s Temporary Animal Shelter Finds New Homes for 3,596 Animals

Muğla Metropolitan Municipality has provided new homes to 3,596 furry friends through its state-of-the-art Temporary Animal Shelter, which is considered one of the most advanced in Turkey. The shelter not only ensures that animals are cared for under the best conditions but also focuses on permanent adoption.

The facility includes initial admission, nursing for mothers with puppies, quarantine zones, examination and surgery rooms, observation areas, cat units, both open and closed kennels, and a natural living park. Since its opening, 55,852 animals have been treated, 25,617 have been neutered, and 2,575 animals have undergone surgical operations.

Of the 25,617 animals neutered, 13,225 were dogs and 12,392 were cats. The shelter also plays an educational role, having hosted 30,200 visitors from schools and institutions.

Mayor Aras: “We Don’t Just Adopt Them, We Make Them Family”

Ahmet Aras, President of the Coastal Aegean Municipalities Union and Mayor of Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, emphasized that they defended the right to life for all beings in Muğla, stating:

“Our animal friends are the most innocent companions in life. That’s why we don’t just adopt them — we make them part of our family. In Muğla, we build all our policies on the foundation of equality. We respect the right of every living and non-living being in our city to exist and thrive. We’re constantly developing projects to protect them. With this mindset, we established our Temporary Shelter, which has become a model facility with its infrastructure and care. We treat, care for, and find loving homes for our animal friends. Our expert team meets all their needs.”

He concluded by reaffirming the municipality’s commitment to defending the right to life of every living being in Muğla.
