Murat Kurum to challenge Imamoglu in Istanbul local election as AK Party’s Istanbul candidate

It has been announced that Murat Kurum is the candidate for the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality from the AKP. His candidacy will be officially declared tomorrow.

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated earlier this week that his party’s Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor candidate would be announced on Sunday, January 7th.

However, just hours before the meeting, a video circulating on social media revealed that the AKP’s candidate for the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality is AKP Istanbul deputy Murat Kurum.

Additionally, journalist İsmail Saymaz, through his X account, announced that Murat Kurum had been notified by the AKP as the candidate for the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

Saymaz’s post reads as follows:

“Murat Kurum has been notified by the AKP that he is the candidate for the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Tevfik Göksu made history by losing without even becoming a candidate.”
