STOLTENBERG SAYS TURKEY HAS SOME DEMOCRATIC ISSUES

In an interview, NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg was asked; “Do you think that there is still a democratic government in Turkey? The reply from Stoltenberg was, “They have elections. The opposition won Istanbul. But, as you know, various allies have also expressed concern about Turkey.”

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg gave an interview to “Axios on HBO”. In the interview, Stoltenberg faced some questions that were critical of the Turkish government. He replied reminding that the opposition had won the election in Turkey and said: “Our allies have different views on Turkey.”

According to Sputnik, while Stoltenberg listed “rule of law, freedoms, free elections”, the question “Do you think there is still a democratic government in NATO member Turkey” came up.

Pausing for a moment, the NATO Secretary General said: “They are having elections. Recently, the opposition managed to win elections in Istanbul. But I think it’s fair to say that I know, and you know, various allies have expressed concern about Turkey.”
