New Era for Taxis: Emergency Button and Camera Requirement Introduced

Changes made to the Highway Traffic Regulation and the School Bus Vehicle Regulation were published in the Official Gazette, introducing mandatory emergency buttons and cameras for taxis.

With the change to the Highway Traffic Regulation published in the Official Gazette, it has become mandatory for taxis and shared taxis (doluş) to be equipped with emergency buttons and cameras.

Cameras Must Record for at Least One Month

According to the regulation, the equipment must be registered with the vehicle’s registration records with a certificate issued by institutions or organizations designated by the Ministry of Industry and Technology. A copy of this certificate must be kept in the vehicle for inspection purposes. The equipment will be periodically checked for proper functionality, and the cameras are required to record for at least one month.

Changes to the School Bus Vehicle Regulation

Changes to the School Bus Vehicle Regulation include new requirements for the driver’s license. For a Class D driver’s license, a minimum of two years of driving experience is required, while for a Class D1 license, the requirement is at least five years of driving experience. Additionally, school bus drivers will need to obtain a medical report every year from their family doctor confirming their fitness to drive a school bus.
