Turkey invites Azerbaijan’s oil company to partner in Mediterranean energy venture

Turkey is reported to have invited SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan to explore offshore oil and gas reserves off the Mediterranean and Black Sea coasts of Turkey.  Azeri oil firm is expected to consider and make a decision by the end of the year.

Yıldız, who is currently in Azerbaijan to attend the World Economic Forum said after a one-on-one meeting with SOCAR President Rövnag Abdullayev “Azerbaijan can search for oil and natural gas in our waters.” 

Eurasia Economic Summit started on Wednesday 10th April 2013

The annual Eurasia Economic Summit, hosting presidents from four countries and 420 foreign participants kicked off on April 1oth.

Many top level politicans to include four presidents from Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Kosovo and Macedonia, and Prime Minister of Madagascar and ministers from Tanzania, Mali, South Sudan, Somalia, Morocco and Ethiopia attended the event. The total number of participants is reported to be 420 from 50 countries. Parallel meetings covering several topics such as energy, healthcare and education, culture, ecological dialogue, modernization, women, information technologies, communication and the defense industry are scheduled to be held.

President Gül Says Eurasian countries will play important role on shaping up new global structure

President Gül has sent a message to 16th Eurasia Economic Summit in Istanbul on Wednesday drawing attention to the position of the Eurasia geography. He particularly emphasized Eurasian countries would play an important role on shaping up new global structure. He also said he expected the summit to discuss the new global structures and cover the topics of women’s role in development and assess the economy, politics, energy, health, education and culture fields of the Eurasia region.

Prime Minister Erdoğan to visit  Gaza after Obama meeting

It was stated by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan who spoke to the journalists flying with him to Kyrgyzstan that he would probably visit Gaza after his trip to Washington to meet U.S. President Barack Obama on May 16.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry who was in Istanbul a short while ago is reported to have advised the Turkish side to reconsider the timing of the prime minister’s planned visit to Gaza.

Parliament approves of commission for the resolution of Kurdish issue

A proposal by the Justice and Development Party (AKP) to establish a “Resolution Process Assessment Commission,” was approved by Turkish Parliament on April 9th. The duty of said commission is supposed to be “to monitor the ongoing peace process”.  The session to discuss said proposal was much disturbed due high tension caused by deputies from both AK Parti and opposition parties.

China hopes to enjoy fair competition with Japan for Turkey’s nuclear projects

Among parties competing to build Turkey’s second nuclear plant, China and a Japanese-French joint venture are reported to be frontrunners. As reported earlier despite big dissent/opposition from environmental NGOs as well as Turkish citizens, government of Turkey has made decisions to have nuclear plants in the country.  Japan, South Korea, China and Canada had been the short-listed contenders for the 5,000-megawatt nuclear power plant to be built in the Black Sea province of Sinop.
