THY fly 10 million passengers between January and March

Turkey’s national air carrier (THY) is reported to have flown 10 million passengers between January and March which corresponds to an increase of 26 percent over previous term. Turkish Airlines has recently been among the most preferred airlines and air passengers who chose to fly THY have increased by 33 percent. THY currently flying to 221 destinations world-wide, has the 5th largest flight network globally.

Turkey’s power capacity doubled over the last 10 years

It is reported that Turkey has doubled its power capacity over the last 10 years. Turkey has been in search of diversifying its sources of energy in parallel to its growing economy. Taner YILDIZ, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources has declared that the installed capacity of the country is now at a total of 57,000 MWs corresponding to an increase of 25,000 MWs capacity since 2002.  The energy investment of USD 55 billion over the last 10 years is scheduled to be doubled to USD 110 billion by 2023 as Turkey targets to be among top ten economies in the world with a 100,000 MWs of installed capacity, by then. Nuclear power plant projects and thermal power plants that use domestic coal reserves are known to be on the agenda of the Turkish government.

PM Erdoğan meets with Aegean lawmakers about sensitivity of nationalist crowds

Prime Minister Erdoğan got together with AK Parti deputies from the Aegean region populated by highly secular and nationalist citizens mostly. Ak Parti lawmakers shared with their leader the sensitivity observed in the region towards the resolution process and said critical remarks to hurt feelings of said crowds could help boost opposition parties.

EP calls on European Commission to open chapters on talks with Turkey

Egemen BAGIS, Minister of EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator made a statement at a seminar held by Microsoft Turkey saying the European Parliament (EP) had approved the Turkey progress report for 2012 and that for the first time, the EP had called on the European Commission to open certain chapters to talks with Turkey. “This shows they saw Turkey’s performance clearly and are aware that they are to blame for certain issues they hold Turkey accountable for” the minister added.

Turkey working on how to bring Turkish citizens’ assets abroad back to the country

Deputy Prime Minister BABACAN has said Turkey has been working on a new cash repatriation law to bring the assets of Turkish citizens abroad, back to the country. Babacan who has been in the United States for Turkey Investment Week gave a speech at Emory University in Atlanta. The Minister said “A cash repatriation law designed to bring assets home came into force in 2008 during the beginnings of the global economic crisis.  A similar one could be considered once more”. Babacan added “When we enacted the first one, there was an economic crisis in the world. Turkey had not yet become prominent. Cash repatriation will be more effective in this period thanks to Turkey’s greater prominence in world affairs”.

Turkey expects big investments in healthcare sector

Healthcare reforms being implemented on a national level and prospects of significant growth are driving foreign investors to Turkey’s medical sector. Enjoying a surge in interest from both hospital chains and investment funds alike, Turkey’s healthcare sector, including subsectors such as dentistry, optometry and home healthcare services, is in high demand for partnerships and acquisitions, particularly from the Far East, industry analysts say.
