CARAVAN COMPANIES IN TURKEY

The reduction of the excise duty applied to motor caravans from 220 percent to 45 percent was welcomed by the caravan sector. An entrepreneur who produces and rents caravans says that the drop in special consumption tax will make a significant contribution to the Turkish domestic caravan sector.

The same business person says “Before the pandemic, the total number of companies engaged in motorhomes or towing caravans in Turkey, that is, interested in caravan construction, would not exceed twenty. In 2021, the number of companies engaged in the production of caravans has increased to 600.”

THE GROWTH OF THE CARAVAN FLEET IMPROVES TOURISM

Stating that with the increase of the caravan fleet, new caravan camping areas will be opened and caravan tourism routes will be formed, the businessman notes following; “We have a lot of historical and natural beauties that can be visited by caravan in Turkey. Tourists will see these beauties of our country thanks to caravan tours, while tourism will be revived in these regions. Thus, every region of our country will begin to develop thanks to foreign exchange revenues.”

EMPLOYMENT IN THE INDUSTRY INCREASES BY 10 TIMES

Same entrepreneur who states that the sector currently provides employment to 2 thousand people when considering caravan production and suppliers in Turkey, thinks that this number will increase to 20 thousand after the tax cut. Underlining that the labor costs of manufacturing caravans in Turkey are very affordable compared to Europe, he goes on to say;

“Before the pandemic, the total number of companies engaged in motorhomes or towing caravans in Turkey, that is, interested in the construction of caravans, did not exceed twenty. In 2021, the number of companies engaged in the production of caravans increased to 600.”

According to the projection prepared by industry representatives, same person believes that Turkey could provide a foreign exchange input of 490 million euros from both caravan tourism and caravan exports after the tax cut move.
