Number of tourists Kemer hosts during holiday reaches 4 times its population
The Kemer district of Antalya, which has a population of about 45 thousand people, hosted almost 4 times its population of domestic and foreign tourists on Sacrifice Holiday (Eid al-Adha).
A top professional in tourism sector in the region has said: “We host about 150 thousand Kemer residents and about an additional 20,000 day-trippers, totaling to 170 thousand people. Of course, this is also very gratifying. We can say that it has been difficult to breathe over the past few years.”
It has become impossible to find a place in hotels in Antalya in July, when there is also a 9-day Eid al-Adha holiday. In the Kemer district with a population of 45 thousand people, which is one of the important tourism destinations of the city, the figures were almost 4 times the population. While 150 thousand people were accommodated daily in Kemer, which was filled with local and foreign tourists, the number of those who visited the district on a daily basis was about 20 thousand.
TOURISM SECTOR HAPPY TO HOST SO MANY GUESTS
Another tourism professional stated that as of July, businesses in tourism sector were happy. He added “We have started a difficult season. Both the continuation of the pandemic and the unpleasant situations between Russia and Ukraine, of course, directly affected tourism. May and April were difficult, but we can say that tourism has come to the desired efficiency with the movement of all markets as of June. We are also experiencing the peak period with the month of July and the holiday. I’m guessing that there are no rooms in Kemer at the moment, the occupancy is high enough. The sector is happy in this sense.”
‘IT’S BEEN HARD TO BREATHE OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS’
Emphasizing that they had reached the figures of 2019 during the high season that started in July, he said he predicted that Turkish tourism would continue in this way in the coming months adding “As for the continuation, the August data are also doing very well at the moment. Assuming September is also one of the most beautiful months, there is no big problem for Kemer and Antalya in September either.”
