WHO STATEMENT ABOUT OMICRON

After many countries imposed travel restrictions to South Africa due to the emerging new mutation of Covid-19, Omicron, the World Health Organization (WHO) made statements about Omicron, which caused a global concern and is allegedly more contagious. WHO said “There is no data to show that Omicron is more contagious than other mutations of the virus.”

Stressing that there is no evidence that Omicron spreads faster or causes more severe disease, compared to other mutations, the WHO urged countries not to rush to close their borders.

Travel restrictions may play a role in reducing the spread of Covid-19, but they “place a heavy burden on lives and livelihoods,” the WHO said. The WHO also  said research into the Omicron mutation was continuing and advised countries “not to be unnecessarily intrusive and to take a scientifically based approach.”
