TOURISM IN VAN

Although there is more than a month left for the new year, the occupancy rate for New Year’s holiday in hotels in Van has reached 100 percent. While 600 thousand tourists are expected to come to the city for the New Year’s holiday, the highest interest is once again from Iran.

The number of tourists coming from neighboring Iran to shop in Van is increasing every year. Iranian tourists, as usual every New Year’s Eve, chose Van to have fun this year as well. Tourists coming for the 3-day New Year holiday from Iran started making reservations in hotels days in advance.

While hotel reservations before the New Year reached 100 percent, Fevzi Çeliktaş, Vice President of the Van Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that in the last 11 months, 554 thousand tourists entered the city from the Kapıköy Border Gate.

600 THOUSAND TOURISTS EXPECTED

Stating that Kapıköy Customs Gate is 100 kilometers away from Van, Çeliktaş said, according to the news on NTV, that they expect 600 thousand tourists to come to the city for the New Year holiday.

“Our city’s livelihood is 63 percent tourism indexed. We hope that this rate will increase even more next year,” said Çeliktaş, and expressed, “With the arrival of Iranian tourists, we contribute added value to our country’s economy as the province of Van. In this sense, we are very happy.”

“OUR RESERVATIONS ARE COMPLETELY FULL”

Yunus Yüksel, one of the hotel owners in the city, said that Iranian tourists have a great contribution to Van tradesmen.

Yüksel, who explained that there is no room in their hotels for more than a month before the new year, said, “They will stay for 3 nights, 4 days for the new year. After that, they will return to their countries. This year, the density of tourists was very good.”
