President Erdogan: Maybe we will bring forward the election date

Speaking at the extended AKP provincial presidents’ meeting, President Erdogan said that the election date could be updated taking into account the seasonal conditions. Erdogan said, ”You also know the importance of the elections of which we may bring the date a little forward. He went on to say, ”We can update it (the election date) taking into account the seasonal conditions.”

The AKP, which had closed the doors to early election calls from the opposition for a long time, is now looking warmly at bringing the elections forward. The AKP people call this “bringing the elections forward” instead of “early elections”.

Within the party, dates such as April May 30 and May 14 are discussed as these dates are later than the date when the new election law will come into force.

With the early elections, the AKP also aims to end the discussions on whether Erdogan can run for the third time in the 2023 elections according to the constitution.

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahceli, who recently lit a flare for the steps to be taken by the government, said two days ago that there were two ways in the constitution for early elections, saying, ”We are ready, whether it is held on time or early.”
