President Erdogan of Turkey officially welcomed by Sisi in Egypt

ERDOGAN IN EGYPT

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan flew to the capital city of Cairo for an official visit aboard a private plane. President Erdogan was welcomed at Cairo International Airport by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Turkey’s Ambassador to Cairo, Salih Mutlu Şen.

Erdogan was accompanied by his wife Emine Erdogan, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca, Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacır, Trade Minister Ömer Bolat, Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, and Presidential Advisor Akif Çağatay Kılıç, who also arrived in Cairo.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be officially welcomed by Sisi at the Ittihadiya Palace, followed by bilateral and delegation-level meetings and a joint press conference. President Erdogan will attend an official dinner hosted by Sisi in honor of his delegation.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

Following the coup in 2013, which led to the overthrow of President Mohammed Morsi, the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Erdogan had expressed his opposition to the coup and Sisi, leading to a breakdown in diplomatic relations between Turkey and Egypt.
