President Erdogan’s Reaction to the US, over downed UAV: How could they do such a thing?

During his speech at the Turkey-Africa 4th Economy and Business Forum, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan criticized the United States for downing Turkey’s UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) and questioned their alliance in NATO. He said, “Aren’t we together with America in NATO? We are. Then, did America down our UAV? Yes, they did. How can we be together in NATO like this? How could they do such a thing? There is a security issue between us.”

Erdoğan also spoke about the cutting of humanitarian aid to the Palestinians, calling it a new stain of disgrace on the foreheads of those who made the decision, especially when millions of people are facing the threat of hunger. He urged all parties to act rationally, starting with a ceasefire and then working towards a lasting peace.

Regarding the downing of the Turkish UAV, Erdoğan further shared following.

“The approach of the American President in his statement on Syria yesterday expresses our concerns about their activities in the region. That is, America’s activities in this country with the Syrian extensions of the PKK pose an extraordinary threat to Turkey’s national security. Aren’t we together with America in NATO? We are. Then, did America down our UAV? Yes, they did. How can we be together in NATO like this? How could they do such a thing? There is a security issue between us. The statement in question is not in line with the spirit of alliance and strategic partnership, as it also emboldens the terrorist organizations attempting to divide Syria. We are determined to eliminate the terrorist threat against our country at its source, regardless of who is behind the terrorist organization. As the only NATO ally that fought head-to-head with ISIS, defeating this terrorist organization at the cost of martyrs, we merely greet this theatrical performance with a bitter smile. We will continue to leave those who play theatrics to their own scripts and take the necessary steps for our national security.”
