While the war between Russia and Ukraine has been going on since Dec. 24, experts and officials continue to discuss Russian President Vladimir Putin’s nuclear weapons statements. Comments that caused concern from officials and scientists have come after Putin’s statements, saying nuclear weapons could be used while the war continues.

A newspaper in the UK, reported that Putin’s conduct of a possible atomic bomb test in the Black Sea could affect countries in the region. It was noted that an atomic bomb to be tested in the Black Sea could both create a layer of poisonous gas and trigger a tsunami.

After Putin’s statements, NATO is monitoring developments in the region even more closely, while a report published in said newspaper shares following: “It is possible that Russia will build an atomic bomb in a test either in a deserted place or in the Black Sea. Defense sources say Putin could launch a nuclear bomb in the Black Sea. In addition to Russia, Ukraine and Georgia, NATO countries Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania also have shores in this sea.”

A professor at the University of Bucharest spoke to media while recalling that he wrote a scientific article a few years ago about the detonation of a nuclear bomb in the Black Sea. The professor said, “It makes no sense for Russia to conduct experiments at sea. But if such a development happens, many troubling consequences can arise, from a tsunami to a toxic gas cloud that will rise from the sea.”
