Record heat in Antalya & Fethiye! Streets are empty, beaches are full
In Antalya, where the Meteorology Department has issued a ‘Dangerous Heat’ warning, streets and avenues are empty while citizens, overwhelmed by the heat, flocked to Konyaaltı Beach.
Meteorology predicted a temperature of 40 degrees Celsius for today in Antalya and issued a ‘dangerous heat’ warning. Experts warned that the felt temperature is expected to be 60 degrees Celsius at noon and indicated that it poses a risk especially for those with respiratory problems, chronic lung diseases, asthma, COPD, and bronchitis.
Due to the extreme heat warning from Meteorology, streets and avenues in Antalya were empty at noon, while citizens, overwhelmed by the heat, flocked to the world-famous Konyaaltı Beach. Some people had picnics in the shade of trees, while others chose to cool off in the refreshing waters of the Mediterranean.
It was much hotter today
Due to the extreme heat, humidity clouds formed on the roads. Beyzanur Gökaslan, who came from Isparta to spend the weekend, said, “We are from Isparta, we love Antalya. It’s beautiful, but the weather is very hot. Today is even hotter. We were actually scared to come yesterday because we read in the news that the temperature would reach 50-60 degrees, but we cooled down once we got into the sea. Compared to Isparta, it’s more oppressive here, especially because of the humidity. The children are very affected by the humidity. We immediately threw ourselves into the sea. We don’t feel the heat in the sea,” she said.

With air temperatures measured at 40 degrees Celsius and sea temperatures at 30 degrees Celsius, the tourist beaches in Fethiye are experiencing the busiest days of the year. Holidaymakers and tourists are enjoying the sea and the sun.
Some swim in the blue waters of the Mediterranean, while others are lounging on the beach with sunscreen applied, basking in the sun. Paragliders taking off from the 1965-meter-high Babadağ are creating a colorful spectacle in the skies over Ölüdeniz.
There’s More Humidity Than Heat
Meteorology officials warned that sunstroke, heat cramps, and heat exhaustion could occur due to the extreme heat. Şükrü Aslan, a citizen who was swimming in Konyaaltı, said, “We are from the Black Sea region, we came here in 1982 and stayed. The weather is very hot, extremely hot. People don’t even take their heads out of the water because of the heat. There’s more humidity than heat,” he said.
