Reports say Airbnb is now more expensive than hotels

It is reported that worldwide hotel stays are now cheaper than Airbnb. According to a study conducted by the UK-based consumer protection group “Which” among British travelers who visited 50 destinations, hotel accommodations are now said to be cheaper than Airbnb. Meanwhile, an increasing number of cities are taking action against Airbnb and filing lawsuits.

Comparing the prices of thousands of hotel rooms with 300,000 single-bed accommodations on lodging portals like Airbnb and Vrbo, “Which” revealed that the average hotel room price was 117 euros, while the average Airbnb and Vrbo price was 139 euros.

For example, in the capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam, the prices of short-term home rental companies are 58% more expensive than hotel prices. The average price in hotels is 134 euros, while it is 213 euros in short-term rentals.

The editor of Which magazine, made the following statement to media;

“Many travelers will be surprised that the average hotel prices are cheaper than Airbnb prices. However, it is important not to assume that hotels are expensive and to conduct price research on different platforms. Airbnb rentals are probably cheaper than hotels for larger families.”
