Tourism: Substantial increase in number of flights from the UK to Turkey
In the first seven months of 2023, international travel from the UK to the Mediterranean region by air showed a 34% increase, with departures to Turkey rising by 23%.
According to an analysis by Turizm Databank based on data from the UK Civil Aviation Authority, during the period of January to July 2023, international travel by air to the Mediterranean region from the UK (both inbound and outbound) increased by 34%, surpassing 112 million. Departures to Turkey saw a 23% increase, reaching close to 4.3 million.

International travel from the UK to Mediterranean countries during this period exceeded 47 million, with Spain leading the way with a 41% share. It was followed by Italy with a 13.6% share and France with a 10.3% share.
What Was Turkey’s Share in the UK?
During this period, Portugal and Turkey, whose market shares declined, saw a 23% improvement in travel numbers, with their shares at 9.2% and 8.8%, respectively. Greece, Northern Cyprus, Morocco, Czech Republic, and Egypt also showed growth, with Morocco and Tunisia breaking records with 100% increases. Outside the Mediterranean, the UAE led its region with a 38% increase and 3.4 million traffic during this period.
