Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova responded to Donald Trump’s statement, following his claimed victory in the U.S. presidential election, that he would “end the war.” Zakharova stated, “Solid actions are needed to make this a reality.” She also emphasized that it was a positive development that those receiving congratulations for the U.S. election recognized that America should first address its own issues.

In an interview on the Rossiya state television channel, Zakharova commented on what Trump’s win in the U.S. election could mean for Russia.

“The U.S. Election Process Has Been a Crisis for Years”

Zakharova pointed out that the U.S. election process had been in crisis for years and expressed concerns that internal conflicts within the country could descend into chaos. She recalled Trump’s victory speech, in which he both thanked his supporters and acknowledged that America was “sick” and had to solve its own issues. She remarked that this stance differed fundamentally from the ultra-liberal ideology often promoted to Americans and others worldwide—that America was ahead of other nations and uniquely equipped to solve global problems.

Zakharova highlighted that acknowledging America’s need to address its own challenges was a significant step forward. Referring to Trump’s call to “Make America Healthy Again,” Zakharova noted that people around the world resonated with this message, given the harm done by conflicts and wars instigated by American administrations.

She concluded, “It has been clearly stated that conflicts irresponsibly initiated by American politicians must be brought to an end. Following these statements, concrete actions are essential.”
