CHICKENSaudis lift ban on Turkish poultry

Saudi Arabia, which had restricted the importation of Turkish poultry following the bird flu epidemic in 2005, has lifted the ban, paving the way for Turkish poultry exporters to access the Saudi market.

“Saudi Arabia imports 500,000 tons of poultry annually and is one of the world’s leading poultry importers. We now intend to provide about 150,000 to 200,000 tons of this,” said Ali Can Yamanyılmaz, the head of the Mediterranean Water Products and Animal Products Exporters Union.

Yamanyılmaz said that by expanding to the Saudi market, the sector would increase its export figure to $1.8 million this year from $1.4 million last year.

The Turkish poultry sector has taken giant steps recently to modernize its production facilities with state-of-the-art equipment. The sector has also gained great experience to benefit from know-how provided by global experts and consultants by establishing very close relations with such.

The sector is in a aposition to be able to compete with the biggest poultry exporting countries in the world.
