Second batch of 6.5 million doses Covid-19 vaccine from China arrives in Istanbul

The second batch of 6.5 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine, ordered from the Chinese company Sinovac, was brought from Beijing to Istanbul on a THY cargo plane. 6.5 million doses of the vaccine which is the first part of the second shipment of the Sinovac vaccine ordered from China, were brought to Turkey. The Turkish Airlines plane carrying the vaccines landed at Istanbul Airport at 06.15. After customs procedures, the vaccines will be loaded on another plane and taken to Ankara.

The first batch of three million doses of the coronavirus vaccine, ordered by the Ministry of health from China, had arrived in Turkey on the morning of December 29. After the necessary tests, vaccination work had begun recently. Health Minister Fahrettin Koca had said about the arrival of new vaccines, “6.5 million doses, the first part of the second batch (10 million doses) of vaccines will be in our country on Monday morning. In accordance with the supply plan, deliveries will reach us in such a way that the vaccine program will continue without interruption”.

Accordingly, the first part of the second shipment, which is 10 million doses arrived in Istanbul on Monday morning. The Boeing 777 Turkish Cargo plane, which took off from Beijing, the capital of China last night, landed at Istanbul Airport at 06: 00. After landing, flight TK6175 carrying coronavirus vaccines docked in the area where thy cargo terminal is located. The vaccines contained in the special container were carefully lowered from the plane by Turkish Ground Services(TGS) teams, a Turkish ground services subsidiary of Turkish Airlines.

The first 3 million doses of Sinovac vaccines produced by the Chinese company CoronaVac were previously brought to Turkey. According to the latest figures released by the Ministry of Health’s website, 1 million 238,343 people have been vaccinated.
