Significant increase in tourism spending with credit cards in Turkey
According to data published by the Interbank Card Center (BKM), online tourism service purchases in Turkey, made with both domestic and foreign cards, saw a substantial growth of 83.8% during the January-October period of 2023, reaching 241 billion Turkish Lira. In terms of the 10-month average, this amounted to over 10.6 billion dollars.
As reported by Turizm Databank, during this period, online transactions with cards for purchasing plane tickets increased by 13.1% in dollar terms, accommodation expenses by 46.3%, bus travel ticket expenses by 51.3%, and car rental expenses by 58%.
Total spending in tourism increased by 92.5%, reaching 370 billion Turkish Lira (16.3 billion dollars).
