Silk Road Cities International Tourism Alliance Conference Held in Istanbul

The Silk Road Cities International Tourism Alliance Conference was held on Friday in Istanbul to discuss tourism cooperation among its members. The alliance partners with globally recognized tourism cities to promote sustainable tourism development along the Silk Road.
Founded in 2023, the alliance aims to foster sustainable tourism development along the Silk Road by partnering with renowned tourism cities worldwide. So far, 63 cities from 28 countries, including Istanbul, have joined the alliance.
Promoting Cultural Interaction and Mutual Success
In his opening speech at the conference, China’s Consul General in Istanbul, Wei Xiaodong, called for enhancing cultural interactions between civilizations to promote harmonious coexistence and mutual success. Wei expressed his hope that Istanbul and other alliance members would continue to uphold the spirit of peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning, and mutual benefit along the Silk Road.
Importance of International Tourism
Francesco Frangialli, Honorary Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), emphasized that international tourism is an important facet of a globalized society. Referring to tourism cooperation activities supported by the Belt and Road Initiative, UNESCO, and the UNWTO, Frangialli praised these activities for their role in facilitating the global interaction of goods, ideas, languages, arts, and cultural practices.

During the event, member cities showcased their unique tourism resources, including natural and cultural attractions.
