Winter sun has become the nightmare of tourists. Ski resorts that rely on the semester are worried due to the air temperatures that are above the seasonal norms. There is no early booking crisis or shortage of places this year during the semester break that starts on Friday. While Erciyes and Palandoken do not have this problem, artificial snow machines are working overtime in Kartalkaya.

While the use of artificial snow in the ski resorts in Erciyes is breaking a record, the costs of hotels have increased more than ever.

A professional in the sector and a hotel owner said, “I do not remember having experienced such weather.” Stating that the occupancy rates in hotels are at extremely low levels, he said that, contrary to popular belief, artificial snow machines do not provide a solution either. He added, “There is an artificial snow word circulating. We also have machines at the moment, but we can’t start them because the air temperature is too high. The reason is, in order to operate these machines, the temperature must also go below -5. The relative humidity should be below -30. Only, Erzurum was able to make artificial snow for four days. Worst case scenario, we’ll close the hotels and leave. At the moment, the main income period of our season, the first week of the semester, is gone. If it goes like this, we can only cover our personnel expenses.”
