Son of Somalia’s President, responsible for death of motorcycle courier by hitting him flees abroad

The son of the President of Somalia, Muhammed Hassan Sheikh Mahmud, who was responsible for the death of motorcycle courier Yunus Emre Göçer by hitting him, has been determined to have fled abroad. The Ministry of Justice, in a statement regarding the matter, said, “The suspect’s capture is being meticulously pursued, including international procedures, and the investigation is being carried out in all aspects.”

Muhammed Hassan Sheikh Mahmud, the son of Somali President Hasan Sheikh Mahmud, had a traffic accident on Thursday, November 30th, at the exit of the Eurasia Tunnel. The motorcycle courier Yunus Emre Göçer (38), who was severely injured in the accident, was taken to the hospital. Despite all interventions at the hospital, Göçer could not be saved and passed away on December 6th. According to the news on media an arrest warrant was issued for the released son of the Somali President.

However, it was found out that Muhammed Hassan Sheikh Mahmud had left the country on December 2nd.

“He left Turkey waving hands”

After the news of Mahmud’s escape from the country spread, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu expressed his reaction in a statement on X. İmamoğlu said they would follow up on the legal process, stating, “But the suspect left Turkey waving hands.”

İmamoğlu, stating that the pain of the victim’s family has increased even more, wrote, “The mentality that allows and supports this escape unfortunately means that it has become so powerless that it cannot defend the rights of its own citizens in its own country.”
