SYRIANS REPATRIATION

The Syrian Foreign Ministry has announced that they will not accept the project planned by Turkey to repatriate 1 million Syrian asylum seekers, on voluntary basis.

One of the issues that has been raised due to the poor progress in the economy and the increasing cost of living is the policies for asylum seekers in Turkey. The opposition is raising concern that there is an uncontrolled influx of people to Turkey due to the ‘open door policy’ of the government and that the demographic structure may change. It is even suggested that citizenship is distributed to asylum seekers to vote in elections (in favor of ruling bloc).

PRESIDENT ERDOGAN SAYS “WE ARE MAKING EFFORT FOR REPATRIATION”

Following these developments, President Tayyip Erdogan also signaled a ‘turnaround’ in his policy regarding Syrian asylum seekers. “We are making every effort for the voluntary and honorable return of our Syrian brothers and sisters,” Erdogan said.

According to the AKP’s ‘repatriation’ plan, 1 million Syrians who want to return to their country will be provided with transportation, shelter and humanitarian assistance to move.

SYRIA SAYS ‘WE ABSOLUTELY REJECT SUCH GAMES”

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to this plan of the AKP government and said “The government of the Syrian Arab Republic absolutely rejects such games”, urging other countries not to fund Turkey and not to support Ankara.
