There is a message from THK: We are preparing our aircraft for fire fighting

The Ministry of Defense Industry had prevented THK (Turkish Aviation Association) aircraft from entering the tenders for protection of forests, earlier. Regarding the issue, a video message came from THK saying, “We are preparing our aircraft for the fight against fire.”

In Turkey which lost its forest, the size of 250 thousand football fields last year, everybody keeps wondering about the state of preparations this year, whether enough and timely aircraft will be supplied etc.

Head of the Trusteeship Delegation of THK, explained that 3 of the CL-215 within THK fell into an idle state due to the need for major maintenance, the remaining 6 aircraft were prepared for tender last year, but they could not participate in the tender due to the specifications.

He announced in December that they had reached an agreement with TUSAS for 4 of the 6 aircraft. Noting that, in accordance with the signed contract, TUSAŞ had started to supply the overhaul materials of 4 aircraft for free, adding “As THK, we will prepare 4 of our aircraft to be prepared for the fire season. We need $ 2.5 million for the remaining 2 firefighting aircraft out of 6 aircraft, and if we meet this, all 6 aircraft will be able to be ready for the firefighting season.”

In the specification published on March 28 and 29, it was announced that 2-4-ton and 5-ton aircraft would be leased. Thus, THK’s CL-215 aircraft with a capacity of 4,900 liters were not granted the right to enter into tenders this year either.

In the meantime THK made a surprise and shared a message on their official INSTA account saying “We are preparing our CL-215 aircraft for fire fighting.” The message was given under the video recorded during the repair and maintenance of the CL-215 aircraft.
