Mehmet Şimşek, the Minister of Treasury and Finance, highlighted the success of the tourism season in a statement on Twitter, saying, “Turkey had its best July in history by hosting 7.1 million foreign visitors in just one month,” and mentioned that this situation contributed to the stability of the Turkish Lira.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism shared the statistics for July 2023, announcing that the number of foreign visitors to Turkey in July 2023 had increased by 7.25% compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 7,148,044. In the first 7 months of the year, the number of foreign tourists visiting Turkey increased by 16.2% compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 26,766,240.

IT SUPPORTS TURKISH LIRA TO BE MORE STABLE

Commenting on these shared tourism figures and making a statement in English on his Twitter account, Şimşek noted:

“There is a boom in tourism. Turkey had its best July in history by hosting 7.1 million foreign visitors in just one month. Due to the slowdown in consumer credit growth and the sharp increase in tourism revenues, it is expected that Turkey’s current account deficit will significantly narrow down (from around $56 billion in June to approximately $40 billion by December for the 12-month current account deficit). This also supports the Turkish Lira to be more stable.”
