Turkey on second day in earthquake disaster: Loss of life 3 thousand 381

MOURNING TURKEY EARTHQUAKE

On February 6, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6, the epicenter of which was Kahramanmaraş, destroyed the region where about 13.5 million people live in 10 provinces. According to the latest official data announced, 3 thousand 381 people died. 5 thousand 775 people were injured in the earthquakes in which 20 thousand 426 buildings were destroyed. After the earthquake disaster, 7 days of national mourning were declared.

Two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 centered in Kahramanmaraş hit 10 cities. In addition to Kahramanmaraş, the earthquake effected Gaziantep, Malatya, Batman, Bingöl, Elazığ, Kilis, Diyarbakır, Mardin, Siirt, Şırnak, Van, Muş, Bitlis, Hakkari, Adana, Osmaniye and Hatay. So far, 3 thousand 381 people have lost their lives in the earthquakes and 20 thousand 426 people have been injured.

According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) data, a total of 5,775 buildings were destroyed in the earthquake, and 11,302 buildings have not yet been reported.

Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya made a statement on his social media account, saying “As of 06.00, 12 752 of our personnel and AFAD volunteers were dispatched to the earthquake zone, especially Hatay, with 73 aircraft from Istanbul. We are grateful.”

VOLUNTEERS FROM IZMIR

The Izmir governor’s office said in a statement, “1,414 thousand personnel were sent to ADANA and ADIYAMAN via 9 civilian aircraft. In addition; 16 military cargo planes departing from the Air Challenge Continental Command transported 17 first aid vehicles, along with 917 personnel on duty to the earthquake zone. As of this hour, 2 thousand 331 personnel have been transferred to the earthquake zones from Izmir by air. Our support efforts to the region are continuing.”

AFAD: 13 thousand 740 search and rescue personnel, 360 vehicles and 3 thousand 361 construction machinery in the field
