Turkey targets to rank 5th largest corrugated board producer in Europe by 2021

Professionals in Turkey’s corrugated board industry maintain that Turkey has one of the fastest growing markets in said sector in the Europe zone and the country targets to rank number 5 among largest production centers in Europe by 2021.

Based on data shared in the report called “Turkey’s Packaging Industry, Corrugated Board Consumption and Economic Impact Analysis” it was shared that developments in e-commerce business had had a boosting impact on the sector and in fact the acceleration of growth thus obtained was larger than provided by other channels. It was added that cardboard produced for exports and e-commerce was on the rise.

The report says the world consumption of “packaging materials” which was US$ 836 billion in 2015, will reach US# 1 trillion with an increase of 20 percent in 2020. It is also shared in the same report that consumption of paper and cardboard packaging to cover corrugated board as well will maintain its market share of 31 percent in the total. Turkey, being one of the fast developing markets in corrugated board sector is forecasted to become the fifth largest production center in Europe by 2021.

According to the report, the world production of corrugated packaging will grow 2.3 percent per year between 2016-2021 and Turkey is expected to surpass Spain, France, Italy, England and Germany by the end of said period.
