COFFEE MARKET TURKEY

Coffee is more than just a drink in Turkey; it’s becoming a massive industry. With annual per capita consumption reaching 1.1 kilograms, Turkey is positioning itself as a regional hub in the coffee sector. The growing café culture, entrepreneurial spirit, and evolving consumer habits are transforming coffee into one of the country’s most dynamic markets.

Global Coffee Market on the Rise

The global coffee market continues to expand rapidly, outpacing many other commodities. Forecasts suggest the market size will reach 485.59 billion dollars in 2025. Out of this, retail coffee sales are expected to generate over 105 billion dollars, while cafés, restaurants, and bars will bring in more than 380 billion dollars. Interestingly, even though coffee prices have surged by over 40 percent in the last year, demand has not slowed down. Instead, sales are growing faster than ever.

Key Drivers of Growth

Experts highlight three main forces shaping the global coffee market. Specialty coffee and third wave culture are becoming mainstream, ready-to-drink and cold coffee segments are expanding at lightning speed, and new consumption regions, especially Asia-Pacific, are rising. Alongside this, sustainability, traceability, and certifications are no longer optional but strategic priorities for brands.

Turkey’s Coffee Market

In Turkey, the coffee market is projected to grow by around 5 percent this year. While the country does not produce coffee beans and relies on imports, it has a unique strength: a deep-rooted coffee tradition combined with a modern café culture. This blend positions Turkey as a regional growth engine and hub for Middle Eastern and West Asian markets. Still, to expand its impact globally, Turkey needs to focus more on exports, coffee equipment innovation, and new service models.

Coffee Enjoyment Persists Despite High Prices

Coffee remains the loyal companion of both office work and friendly conversations. Despite record price hikes, people have not given up on their coffee ritual. According to a USDA report, global coffee consumption for the new season is projected to reach 169.4 million bags, which equals an increase of three million tons compared to last year.

Coffee Trends to Watch in 2025

Sustainability in coffee production, innovative brewing methods, functional coffee varieties, evolving consumer habits, and digital integration are shaping the industry. Seasonal products, especially winter coffee recipes, are also seeing growing interest.

A Breakthrough in Sustainable Packaging

Turkey is also making its mark in sustainable coffee culture. Recyloop Sustainable Packaging Inc. was announced as a finalist at the 2025 Sustainable Business Awards in the “Waste Management and Zero Waste” category. Their HydroLoop Water-Based Coating Technology solves the recycling challenge of paper cups lined with plastic. With this innovation, cups are now fully recyclable, biodegradable, and part of a true circular economy. Company board member Ömer Erhan Eroğlu emphasized that this achievement reflects not only Recyloop’s innovation but also Turkey’s commitment to sustainability on the international stage.
