Turkey’s unemployment rate declines to 10.6 percent in February 2018

It is reported that unemployment rate in Turkey fell to 10.6 percent in February 2018. Unemployment fell by 2 points compared to the same period of last year, but it regressed 0.2 points compared to the previous month. Based on data provided by TURKSTAT data the number of unemployed persons at age of 15 and above in Turkey became 3 million 354 thousand people with a decrease of 546 thousand in February 2018 compared to the same period last year. The unemployment rate was realized as 10.6 percent with a decrease of 2 percentage points.

In the same period the non-agricultural unemployment rate was estimated at 12.5 percent with a 2.3 point decrease. In the young population (15-24 years) the unemployment rate was 19 percent with a decrease of 4.3 percentage points. In the 15-64 age group this rate was 10.9 percent with 2 percentage points decrease.

The number of employed persons increased by 1 million 210 thousand persons in the period of February 2018 to 28 million 166 thousand persons and the employment rate was 46.6 percent with an increase of 1.3 percentage points.
