Turkish Airlines Announcement on Cyber Disruption: Issue Largely Resolved

Amid global technical disruptions in accessing Microsoft services affecting airlines, banks, and healthcare systems, Turkish Airlines (THY) has released a new announcement regarding the cyber chaos.
Impact on Airlines and Other Sectors
Due to the software-related problem affecting various sectors globally, many airlines experienced disruptions in ticketing and reservations. Turkish Airlines and Ajet passengers were unable to book or reserve tickets in the morning. Although the issue did not cause flight disruptions, it has been largely resolved.
Turkish Airlines Actions
THY announced that to prevent flight disruptions, some flights would be canceled. Yahya Üstün, the Press Advisor for Turkish Airlines, stated on social media:
“Dear passengers, due to issues in our information systems, there are disruptions in ticketing and reservation processes. Necessary measures are being taken to resolve the issue and minimize passenger inconvenience.”
Key Points from the Announcement
– Apologies were extended for the inconvenience, with promises to provide updates as soon as possible.
– The problem was identified as a global software issue affecting various sectors, including aviation.
– Necessary actions are being taken to resolve the partial impact on operations, and flights are gradually returning to normal.
– Additional rights have been granted to passengers to prevent any loss of rights.
Detailed Compensation Measures
The THY help desk confirmed that there would be no loss of passenger rights due to the disruptions. The following measures have been outlined:
– The technical disruption caused by a global supplier affected various sectors, including aviation, resulting in some flight cancellations. Passengers can check the status of their flights via the “Flight Status” section of the mobile app.
– Additional rights have been granted to passengers whose flights were not canceled but were affected by the disruption. Passengers must make use of these rights by July 25, 2024, for tickets issued on or before July 19, 2024.
Specific Passenger Rights
1. Reservation Changes: Changes can be made free of charge. Passengers who missed their flights due to the system issue will not lose their rights.
2. Refund Requests:
– Full refunds will be issued for completely unused tickets.
– Partial refunds will be issued for partially used tickets for the unused segments.
3. Applicability: These measures apply to both group and individual passengers on flights operated by Turkish Airlines.
These steps aim to ensure that passengers affected by the disruption are accommodated and compensated appropriately.
