Turkish Government declares July 15th “Day of Democracy & National Unity”

The Turkish Government has declared July 15th  the “Day of Democracy and National Unity” and a national holiday. The name of Ankara’s Kazan district has also been changed to Kahramankazan (Heroic Kazan).

The legislative proposal to declare July 15, the day of the coup attempt a national holiday and the “Day of Democracy and National Unity” has been passed by the General Assembly of the Parliament.

The legislative proposal also suggested to change the name of Ankara’s Kazan* district to Kahramankazan (Heroic Kazan).

Discussed in the General Assembly of the Parliament yesterday (October 25) the bill passed unanimously.

*On the day of the coup attempt, the war jets which had hit the Parliament, had taken off from the 4th Akıncı Air Base Command located near Kazan district. The district later was often referred to as the symbol of the resistance on the day of the coup attempt.
