“The 25% cap on rent increases is a decision taken to protect tenants during inflationary periods,” said Vice President Yılmaz, reminding that the housing issue is crucial for social welfare, especially emphasizing their focus on primary residences and the announcement of a comprehensive urban transformation program considering the risk of disasters. He stated, “In the upcoming periods, you will see our policies on producing more social housing both by central administration and local governments.”

Highlighting the importance of increasing housing supply, Yılmaz mentioned the necessity of moving towards more energy-efficient housing structures alongside social housing, primary homeownership, and disaster-resistant measures, including green transformation.

Vice President Yılmaz drew attention to the decision to limit rent increases to 25% as a measure to protect tenants during inflationary periods, stating, “The main goal, of course, is to reduce inflation and eliminate this need altogether. Therefore, when you manage to permanently lower inflation, there won’t be a need for such measures.

However, this decision has not been finalized yet. It is valid until the middle of this year. We have until July. When the time approaches, an impact assessment will be conducted. Pros and cons will be evaluated, considering the direction of inflation, the trend in rents, and all other factors, before making a decision.”
