PRESIDENT SISI OF EGYPT

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi emphasized that Israel’s attacks on Gaza were not aimed at combating Hamas but rather at displacing Palestinians. He warned Israel about attempting to push Palestinians into the Sinai Peninsula.

During a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Cairo, Sisi stated, “What is happening in Gaza is not a military operation against Hamas but the displacement of Gaza Strip residents. Attempts to move Palestinians to the Sinai region could lead to Egypt’s involvement in the conflict against Israel.”

Sisi also made it clear that he would not allow the Sinai Peninsula to become a region where the conflicting parties in the Israel-Palestine conflict conduct military operations. He warned that the continuation of military operations in Palestinian territories could lead to the situation spiraling out of control.

Sisi mentioned that Egypt had not closed the Rafah border crossing since the beginning of the conflict. However, he pointed out that the numerous bombings carried out by Israel on the Palestinian side of the border had hindered the crossing’s operation.

Sisi also stressed the importance of providing humanitarian aid to Gaza.
