Weather in Turkey: “When summer is expected, winter arrives – 8 Cities Covered in White”

Summer has not come in Turkey this year. In mid-May, eight cities have experienced snowfall. Due to heavy snow, many villages became inaccessible, and those stranded on the roads were rescued by emergency teams.
Many provinces of Turkey were surprised with snow today. The snowfall in Muş affected the higher elevations following last night’s snowfall. Certain sections of the Üçevler Group Village Road at an altitude of 2,500 meters in Çavuştepe, where access to 10 villages and 21 hamlets was provided, were closed to traffic due to snow.
ERZURUM
Intermittent showers, which had been occurring in Erzurum center for about a week, gave way to snow at the Palandöken Ski Center.
The center, which hosts numerous domestic and foreign tourists during the winter season, turned its slopes white with the falling snow. Some citizens who visited the region amidst the effective fog took photographs.
Hasan Duymuş, one of the citizens, said they went to Palandöken to take photos. Duymuş pointed out that the weather had got colder at the ski center and said, “We came from Istanbul for sightseeing, but we encountered snow. We met snow in May, which was nice for us. There is fog and snowfall in the higher elevations; it’s a different situation.”
KOCAELİ
While rain was effective in the city center of Kocaeli since the morning hours, snow fell in the highlands. The snowfall in the Kartepe region, which is 1.5 hours away from Istanbul by road, was recorded with a mobile phone camera.
While the snowfall was short-lived, no white cover formed on the ground and greenery. In Kocaeli, where temperatures are below seasonal norms, the precipitation is expected to decrease as of tonight.
BOLU
In Bolu, the rain that started in the morning in the 2200-meter-high summit of Köroğlu Mountain turned into snow in Kartalkaya, Aladağ, Sarıalan, and Yedigöller regions. Some areas in the region were covered with a white blanket.
DÜZCE
Snowfall was effective in the Kardüz Plateau at an altitude of 1830 meters in Gölyaka district of Düzce. Green areas and trees were covered in snow in the plateau, located 40 kilometers away from the district.
SAKARYA
Snowfall dominated the Dikmen Plateau at an altitude of 1725 meters in Hendek district of Sakarya. Intense fog formed after the precipitation.
KARABÜK
In Karabük, the rain that started in the morning turned into snow at the 2,000-meter-high Keltepe Ski Center. In the center, where the highest temperature was measured at 11 and the lowest was below zero 2 degrees, the precipitation is expected to continue intermittently.
The rain, effective throughout the province, turned into snow in the highlands of the Yapraklı, Ilgaz, and Çerkeş districts. The highlands turned white as the temperature noticeably dropped in the province. Rainfall is also effective in the city center.
