Fires Spread in Multiple Regions

Forest fires broke out in Antalya’s Alanya district and Muğla’s Milas and Köyceğiz, prompting large-scale firefighting efforts. In Alanya, electricity was cut off in precautionary measures as flames neared residential areas, forcing evacuations. Several greenhouses and gardens were damaged. Meanwhile, the Milas fire spread across a wide area, fueled by strong winds.

Alanya Residents Evacuated

The blaze in Alanya began in Aliefendi neighborhood, quickly intensifying due to strong winds. Firefighters, forest management crews, and AFAD teams were dispatched to the scene. Authorities implemented an emergency power cut, while several homes were evacuated.

Alanya District Governor Şakir Öner Öztürk stated that all institutions were mobilized to stop the flames. He emphasized that no casualties had been reported and that teams were working with great dedication to bring the fire under control despite the wind.

Local headman Rüştü Vural confirmed the rapid spread of the flames and noted that houses in the fire zone were quickly emptied. He stressed that strong winds were making firefighting efforts more difficult.

Aerial Support Strengthens Efforts

Through the night, firefighting continued on the ground with water trucks and heavy machinery. At sunrise, helicopters and planes joined the efforts, dropping water from the sea and reservoirs onto the burning areas. Volunteers and residents also supported the teams, some bringing food and water, others even attempting to extinguish flames themselves.

Fire in Muğla’s Milas Expands

In Milas, flames began along the roadside in Kıyıkışlacık neighborhood and spread into the forest. Muğla Regional Forestry Directorate, municipal firefighters, and heavy machinery teams worked throughout the night. Drone footage revealed the vast scale of the fire.

As morning arrived, helicopters joined the operation, and residents assisted crews, with some captured on camera fighting flames with their own equipment.

Köyceğiz Fire Challenges Fire Crews

Another fire erupted in Muğla’s Köyceğiz district, in Akköprü’s Bozburun area. Strong winds caused the fire to grow rapidly. Nearly 170 personnel, 28 water trucks, 9 tankers, 3 bulldozers, 3 helicopters, and 5 planes joined the battle against the flames. Reinforcements arrived from neighboring provinces.

Despite large-scale intervention, the strong winds continued to hinder full control. (ekonomim.com)
