Will pro-Kurdish DEM party’s candidacy in Istanbul lead to İmamoğlu’s defeat in elections?

As the local elections approach, Ekrem İmamoğlu’s task of winning again in Istanbul is becoming increasingly difficult. This is because the Kurdish-oriented DEM Party has decided to field a candidate in Istanbul. Will İmamoğlu be able to garner the votes of Kurdish voters against the AK Party once again? This is the whole issue.

Additionally, an important development has occurred on this matter. Following the DEM Party’s decision to field a candidate in Istanbul, Selahattin Demirtaş, the former Co-Chair of the HDP, evaluated the local elections. Meeting with DEM Party’s Ağrı Deputy Sırrı Sakık in Edirne Prison, Demirtaş conveyed the message that “the DEM Party is not anyone’s crutch.”

According to a report by Ferit Aslan from Medyascope, Selahattin Demirtaş stated that the DEM Party needs to prepare in an organized manner for the upcoming local elections.

Highlighting the need to compensate for the losses suffered in the last general elections, Demirtaş used the phrase, “the DEM Party is not anyone’s crutch.” These statements strongly suggest that the DEM Party will field a candidate in Istanbul, and it seems likely that the candidate will be Başak Demirtaş, Demirtaş’s wife.

In summary, the task of CHP and İmamoğlu seems challenging in the Istanbul elections.
