XIAOMI ELECTRIC CAR MARKET

Once known strictly for smartphones, Xiaomi is now making serious waves in the electric vehicle (EV) market, and its ambitions are only growing. After a record-breaking debut in China, the tech giant is preparing to storm the European automotive market, and big names like Tesla and BYD have every reason to be nervous.

From Phones to Fast Lanes: Xiaomi’s Electric Rise

It wasn’t long ago that Tesla reigned supreme as the world’s top-selling EV brand. But the landscape has shifted dramatically, especially with Chinese manufacturers dominating the EV sector with affordable, high-tech electric and hybrid models for every budget. And now, Xiaomi is at the forefront of this revolution.

After launching its first EV, the SU7, Xiaomi entered the automotive world with a bang—achieving massive sales in China and quickly becoming a formidable competitor to even Tesla. The brand soon followed up with the SU7 Ultra and YU7, further solidifying its position in the fast-growing EV space.

Next Stop: Europe

Having conquered China, Xiaomi is now turning its attention to Europe. Since 2024, the company has been laying the groundwork for entry into the European market. In a recent interview reported by Carscoops, Xiaomi President Lu Weibing confirmed plans to officially launch in Europe by 2027.

Once Xiaomi hits the European roads, it’s expected to go head-to-head with the likes of Tesla and BYD—bringing its high-performance, competitively priced EVs to a whole new audience.

Massive Momentum at Home

Back in China, Xiaomi’s EV division is thriving. In the first quarter of 2025, the brand delivered 81,302 vehicles, reaching 157,000 units sold by mid-year. With YU7 production ramping up, Xiaomi aims to accelerate that growth even further in the months ahead.

What Models Will Launch in Europe?

While the company hasn’t confirmed which model will spearhead its European debut, rumors suggest Xiaomi plans to introduce both the SU7 and YU7 to the continent. A third model, the YU9, is also reportedly in development and may join the lineup for global release.

The Bottom Line

Xiaomi is no longer just a smartphone brand—it’s a rising EV powerhouse that’s already disrupted China’s auto industry. Now, with a strategic push into Europe by 2027, the company is poised to become a serious global player in the electric vehicle race. Tesla and BYD, take note: the competition just got a lot more interesting.
