Istanbul, Turkey’s largest metropole is more crowded than 131 countries

Turkey is a country with one of Europe’s most crowded populations. Istanbul on the other hand is the most developed and crowded city in this country. The reason is the mega town keeps receiving migration from the remaining part of the country and especially from Anatolia.

To confirm this picture according to a survey conducted not long ago, it was observed that 18.4 percent of Turkey’s total population of 82 million lived in Istanbul, in 2018.

Said study was performed by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Turkey’s Statistical Institute.

According to the data obtained, the population of Istanbul increased by 907 thousand 257 people in 5 years. In this period, its population increased by 6.4 percent to 15 million 67 thousand 724 people which is a more crowded population than those of 131 countries out of 204.

In this respect, countries such as Belgium (11.5 million), Greece (11.1 million people), Austria (8.8 million), Switzerland (8.5 million people) and Bulgaria (7 million people) were behind Istanbul.

Undoubtedly, this picture has led to a decline in the quality of services provided by the municipality to residents living in this city. It has become impossible for the municipality to be able to serve rapidly increasing population with the same performance. Consequently, this situation had a negative impact on citizens, regarding services such as transportation, in particular.
