President Trump tells Erdoğan USA will not give YPG weapons anymore
Turkey’s Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu stated after a telephone conversation between Donald Trump and President Erdoğan that Trump had promised he would not give YPG arms anymore. In said conversation other issues such as mutual relations, the Summit of Sochi, the Syrian crisis and regional problems were discussed as well.
It is reported that Foreign Minister Cavusoglu and Deputy Secretary and MIT Undersecretary Hakan Fidan also took part in the tele-meeting.
Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu said after the meeting, “Like we opposed the participation of YPG in the National Dialogue Congress in Sochi, Iran has opposed this issue as well. We have already clearly stated that terrorist organizations should not take part here, and especially those groups that do not respect Syria’s border and territorial integrity and oppose it could not take part in this congress. The three countries will also consult with each other on who will participate and decide together.
Our President has conveyed to Mr. Trump clearly that YPG should not be involved in such a formation“.
“One of the issues that most negatively impact our relations with the USA is the weapons that the US has given the YPG, besides the FETO and some other issues. In fact we have observed that some armored vehicles in this regard, recently. Mr. Trump gave clear instructions and after that he clearly stated that the YPG would not be given any weapons any more, and this nonsense should have actually been ended earlier”.
