Istanbul Stock Market opens with a sharp rise on February 16

The BIST 100 index in Borsa Istanbul, which rose by 9.88 percent yesterday, started the day at 5,311 points with a 7.29 percent increase today. At the opening, the BIST 100 index gained 360.88 points and 7.29 percent compared to the previous close, reaching 5,311.35 points.

The banking index rose 8.10 percent and the holding index rose 6.60 percent. While all sector indices started the day with a rise, chemicals, petroleum and plastics gained the most with 8.49 percent.

After a one-week break, the BIST 100 index, which opened for trading yesterday in Borsa Istanbul, ended the day at 4,950.47 points with a gain of 9.88 percent due to the effect of measures taken, especially to support share buybacks.

Analysts noted that expectations and comments on the central bank’s monetary policies varied with the announced data, and stated that the volatile course in global share markets might remain on the agenda for some time.
