Turkish Airlines (THY) Turkey’s largest airline company is the 8th air carrier in the world in terms of destination network with its 166 destinations (2010). It is the fastest growing airliner in the last three years among the members of Association of European Airlines (AEA).
The number of total domestic and international passengers reached 25,1 million in 2009, becoming the fourth largest in Europe and the 22nd largest in the world.
THY is one of the most important actors in the global airline network with its 68 destinations in Europe, 18 in the Far East, 19 in the Middle East and 16 in Africa.
The company which has regular flights to all countries in Balkans, flies to nine spots in Germany, seven in Russia and six in Ukraine. It has added 43 new international destinations in the last five years (2009), including Casablanca, Dushanbe, Addis Ababa and Riga.
Its number of passengers in the lines in Middle East increased by 26%, in Northern America by 36%, in the Far East by 22% and in Africa by 26% in 2009.
The quantity of cargo carried has increased by approximately 50% in the first half of 2010, becoming the ninth largest cargo carrier in Europe.
It is currently sponsor for world wide popular Barcelona football team.
