26 thousand Turkish citizens apply for asylum in Europe in six months

According to European Union (EU) sources, more than 26 thousand Turkish citizens have applied for asylum in European countries since the beginning of 2023. It ranked fifth in asylum applications from Turkey to the EU after Syria, Afghanistan, Venezuela and Colombia.

Discussions are ongoing about the difficulties experienced by visa applicants from Turkey to EU countries in getting an appointment and the high rejection rates.

According to information obtained from an EU official; In 2022, the consulates of the EU and Schengen countries received more than 7.5 million short-term visa applications worldwide.

It was stated that 778 thousand 409 short-term visa applications had been made from Turkey, it was recalled that this number was 271 thousand 997 in 2021.

According to statistics, Turkey ranks first in visa applications. Turkey is followed by Russia and India.
