5.9 Magnitude earthquake in Düzce! Felt in many cities, including Istanbul

The 5.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Düzce at 04.08 caused great panic. The shaking was felt in Istanbul, Bolu, Sakarya, Ankara, Kocaeli, Kütahya, Bilecik, Bursa, Izmir as well as in Düzce. A 63-year-old woman who experienced panic died after a heart attack.

AFTERSHOCKS ARE EXPERIENCED AFTER THE DÜZCE EARTHQUAKE

After the 5.9 magnitude earthquake in Düzce, another 4.7 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 04:30 with the epicenter in Çilimli district of Düzce. The earthquake in Çilimli district occurred at a depth of 8 kilometers. In the statement made by AFAD following was sshared; “After the earthquake in Düzce Gölyaka, 18 aftershocks occurred. Power outages are being implemented for control purposes in the region.”

CITIZENS RECALLED THAT TERRIBLE DAY

The earthquake in Düzce Gölyaka brought to mind the earthquake on November 12, 1999, whose epicenter was again in Düzce.

On 17 November 1999, only 87 days after the Marmara Earthquake, Düzce was shaken by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake on November 12, 1999. On that day, 710 had people lost their lives and 2 thousand 678 people were injured in the earthquake caused by the movement of the 73 kilometer-long Düzce fault.
