TOURIST INFLUX TO MUGLA IN SHUT DOWN

Mayor Of MUGLA Metropolitan Municipality has told a national television that about 600 thousand guests arriving in the town within 2-3 days could trigger an outbreak of the corona virus and he is very afraid of it. He also explained the extent of the situation with scientific figures.

Due to the 17-day closure, it was observed that about 600 thousand people entered the tourist districts of Mugla from various parts of the country, especially Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. Mayor of Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Dr. Osman Gurun told a national television that guests coming in such large numbers and uncontrolled without tests could cause great problems throughout Mugla. Gurun explained the extent of the situation with scientific figures.

Each district of the town is a destination on its own, said Osman Gürün adding there were many residential places such as villas and alike considered as second home in destinations like Bodrum, Fethiye, Marmaris, Datça and Dalaman. He said “there was an influx here and the fear of an epidemic has engulfed Muğla.”

IT IS NOT 17 DAYS HOLIDAY IT IS A SHUTDOWN

The mayor emphasized that people coming to Mugla had not done so for shut-down but they had rather come for the purpose of having a vacation.

“There was a big influx as if it were a holiday. We’ve had this before on holidays. While a significant part of Istanbul has migrated here, we do not know if some of these people carry Covit because there are no tests at the entrance. All guests are staying in their own homes or villas. They will definitely have contact.

As a result, people who are infected will return within 10 days, and therefore there will be an increase in cases both here and where they return. What was our goal before to practice this shut-down? Let people stay where they are so that they cannot to infect each other, without testing. But we declared mobilization in 2-3 days. There’s been a lot of mobilization from one city to the other. And there will be returns. There will also be an increase in their own cities.”

THESE PEOPLE SHOULD NOT HAVE GONE ANYWHERE

Initially, he also suggested that departures should be closed.

We had to restrict the event of “People who want to do so, can go to the city they want” and allow them only if the test result were negative. Because now we do not know who is a carrier of the virus.

People will naturally want to go out, go out to sea and meet their friends. That’s not how closure works. Unfortunately, we increased the infection by our own hand. According to me, the ban on these trips should be fully implemented so that everyone stays in the city where they are”
