7 women in Ankara produce traditional yemenis and export them abroad

7 women in Ankara have established “Yemenia Women’s Initiative Production and Business Cooperative” on November 11, 2021 in order to produce traditional yemenis with modern design without disturbing their naturalness, promote them at home and abroad and contribute to women’s employment.

In a 6-square-meter workshop established in the Altindag district of Ankara, said women produce Yemeni (traditional shoes) products made entirely by hand using leather and natural materials, as well as bags, wallets, belts and necklaces.

The designs in the workshop are designed by women who have graduated from the Department of Traditional Crafts or have a heart for leather art.

Women engaged in traditional shoemaking, which is included in the UNESCO National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage, also send orders that they receive over the internet and by phone to the city of San Francisco in the US state of California, as well as to Brazil.

Entrepreneurial women who contribute to family budgets and the maintenance of Yemeni art with the income they receive also provide trainings to women who want to take part in production and allow them to participate in the production chain.
