Eight UK citizens are on trial for allegedly running a ‘food poisoning’ scam involving hotels in Spain. An interesting development took place in the UK, the country where the highest number of fake illness cases are filed related to hotels used on holidays.

Eight UK citizens were found to have defrauded three hotels in Majorca of £9.5 million through a company they set up in Spain.

The investigation conducted in Majorca stated that the woman named Laura J. defrauded 3 hotels for 9.5 million pounds (around 220 million pounds) with her brother Marc Cameron and 8 accomplices named R.B, S.R.F, T. J. S, S. A. L, N. M. S and P. C. M. According to the report, the fraud in question was carried out through a company called Elite Project Marketing SL, founded in Spain.

They convinced tourists to file fake poisoning cases

Accordingly, the sister and brother persuaded British tourists to open fake poisoning cases related to the hotel where they were vacationing through 6 British citizens they had agreed.

The verdict issued by a court in Majorca said that the organized crime syndicate specializes in obtaining information from Britons vacationing in all-inclusive hotels in Majorca. The gang convinced the tourists to sue the hotel, made the tourists sign the forms prepared by themselves and demanded compensation, it was stated in the court decision that only 3 hotel groups were defrauded of 9.5 million pounds in the period between Dec 2016-2017.

It was stated that Laura J, who lived in a luxury villa in Majorca, was arrested in 2021 when she was 7 months pregnant and spent 4 months in custody. (TG)
