A Dutch ex-patriate who makes most beautiful videos about hiking trails in Turkey
Turkey has been a country of attraction for many foreigners for quite a while and many foreign citizens have settled in this beautiful country making it their second and in many cases first home. Some of these foreign friends contribute to Turkey in many ways as well and in fact ELLIS FLIPSE is certainly one of them.
ELLIS FLIPSE, a 56-year-old Dutch lady (now), came to Turkey as a tourist in 1995 and totally fell in love with the Turkish village lifestyle. Living a life of working many hours a week to pay the bills for a middle class existence just did not feel like the right way. At the age of 40 she quit her job, packed her stuff and moved to CANDIR – A small village on the south coast close to Dalyan, Turkey.
Many people just could not understand why somebody who always loved going out at night to socialize, who even owned her own bar would want to live so remotely. And then in Turkey of all places. Therefore she wanted to share her experiences to create more understanding of this country, bursting with natural beauty and with great people. With a love for writing this resulted in the book ‘Yabanci’ in which she shares her adventure of the first, and also most difficult year in Turkey.
Her love for the outdoors made her wander off into the mountains to explore the untamed nature around her village. Coming from an overcrowded country where everything is controlled, made her hungry for more. So, last year she started hiking the Lycian Way, a 540K hike along the southern coastline – which she hopes to finish this year. After that she intends to start hiking the Carian Way and many of the other great trails in Turkey.
Ellis still likes to take others along on her journey, so she started a video channel. After a year of learning how to film and edit she is now at a point that she is loving this medium and so she shares many aspects of village life and her hikes in Turkey on this YouTube channel.
Her channel is about leaving behind the life of stress, over-regulation and routine to live in a small village on the Mediterraneanan Sea amid the ruins of the ancient Lykian city of Kaunos. Located across the river from the holiday resort town of Dalyan and only minutes away from the 5-star white sand Iztuzu Beach, pine clad forests and a massive lake by the name of Köyceğiz Lake – it is an area of extreme natural beauty. The weather is hot and sunny during the summer with mild temperatures during the winter.
